Smith turns down Missouri job

During the NCAA Final Four, Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith was approached about the opening with the University of Missouri, but indicated he had no interest, according to a PioneerPress report on TwinCities.com.

Mike Anderson, the Missouri coach, recently left the school to accept the head coaching position with Arkansas. While no formal offer was made, the inquiry was more of a “gauging interest” sort of contact. According to the bylined article by Marcus Fuller, Smith indicated he was happy at Minnesota and was not looking to move.

Due to his high profile career, Smith is almost constantly a name mentioned whenever any college basketball opening comes up; while his current deal with Minnesota has no buyout clause attached – that expired in the summer of 2010 – there are still three years remaining on his current contract and lawyers representing both Minnesota and Smith have reportedly been working on a contract extension between Smith and the Gophers for the past few months.

I wonder if they’re down to arguing out Fedora Hats endorsements, or whether the two sides are still a ways apart on the overall structure of the extension?
