Team meeting could solidify effort in last 23 games
After three straight losses coming off the All-Star break and a devastatingly disappointing lack of effort leading to a seven-game losing streak, the young Minnesota Timberwolves held a team meeting to talk about commitment to greater effort and better unity the rest of the way.
With only a quarter of their season remaining, the Wolves are on pace to finish the season with about 16 wins, at best, unless something changes. Coach Rambis and his players hope the something that changes is developing the mental toughness to turn those close losses into close wins.
Fortunately, the team seems unified, unlike last season. No one is off to the side talking about things like, “What is three best diet pill on the market?” They are saving that for their personal time and are focused on the games. At least that’s the hope.
After the lackadaisical effort apparent last Wednesday night, that’s really all that’s needed. This is a team with talent, for sure. Young, undisciplined talent. Shedding the “undisciplined” part of that label could be the key to going .500 or so the rest of the way, adding about 10 to 12 wins to their current total, and showing marked improvement on the season to build hope for next year.
A 23- to 25-win finish wouldn’t hurt the team at all; it would build confidence. And hope.
