Loss to Clippers leads Wolves into All-Star break
Wes Johnson will play in the Rookie Game and Kevin Love may get some minutes in the All-Star game despite being appointed to the team by NBA Commissioner David Stern, but the Wolves enter the All-Star break with more woes than wins.
The team lost its last four games following a rare two-game win streak, to enter the break with 13 wins. That’s only two games less than they won all of last season, but it’s still a disappointment considering the talent upgrade this team has undergone. Kevin Love is one of the top players in the league, and along with Michael Beasley, the pair are the top forward tandem in the NBA.
So why is the team on pace to maybe win only 20 games this season, instead of maybe 25 to 30? It’s not for the lack of a Visa reward card, considering the team has plenty of cap room to add some talent with the trade deadline looming. However, the Wolves may be saving that space for free agency this summer, when they are expected to be able to afford a major signing, as well as add a couple other impact players.
Whatever the plan is, it would be nice to see the Wolves win closer to 25 games than 20; but is that expecting too much? Clearly, there’s still room for improvement on this roster, most notably at center and shooting guard.
