Musgrave a good fit

Sure, a lot of eyebrows around the Twin Cities went up a few weeks ago when it looked like new coach Leslie Frazier might land former Denver head coach Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator, replacing Darrel Bevel. McDaniels would have been a huge get, just because of his profile.

But when McDaniels went elsewhere, Frazier landed his second choice: Bill Musgrave of the Atlanta Falcons, let go after a disappointing playoff loss, despite being primarily responsible for the emergence and development of Matt Ryan. Musgrave has made a career out of developing young quarterbacks and getting the most out of them, and that’s exactly what the Vikings will need next season (whenever that starts, following a potential lockout) when either Joe Webb or a newly-drafted QB will likely be the Vikings’ starter.

Sure, he’s closer to needing to worry about medicare supplement plans than McDaniels, but with those years of experience comes a track record; Musgrave’s is one that is sure to benefit Minnesota’s young QB situation next season, especially as he is talking about simplifying an offense that, at times, confused even QB Brett Favre.
