Tubby’s team has one loss, ranked 17
Tubby Smith’s Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball team has only one loss to its name, against Virginia, and is ranked 17 nationally as the Gophers prepare for the start of the Big 10 season. Given the strength of the Big 10, this will be a far more challenging portion of their schedule this season.
Yet getting through the first part of their season with an 11-1 record is still a huge accomplishment, one that may have some Gophers lighting up Partagas in celebration. The games ahead will be harder, but it looks like this year’s team is ready for the challenge. All they need to make the Big Dance is to go .500 in the Big Ten portion of their schedule. However, this year, it would be nice to see the Gophers dominate some of their Big 10 opponents with some season sweeps. If they can manage to do that, we could be looking in March at a Gophers team with at least 22 wins and a real shot at a Sweet Sixteen appearance.
