Get Skip Holtz

There’s really only one great name out there on college football that could turn Minnesota around effectively. His name is Holtz, and I don’t mean Lou. I’m talking about his son, Skip.

Skip Holtz was 38-27 in five seasons at East Carolina, a team that was 3-20 in the two years before he was hired; just this season, he moved on to the University of South Florida, so he has a fresh contract that would have to be bought out. But please… who better to come to Minnesota, a place where Legendary Lou once coached, than his own son? It’s be worth the investment, and Skip would have to be thrilled at the prospect of moving up to the Big 10 Conference from the Big East.

It would mark a huge promotion for Holtz, be an immediate hit with alumni and fans alike, and buy Skip some time to patch the program up. Lock him into a six-year deal and give him room to make over the team. Minnsota’s a much easier sell than South Florida; sure, walking away from there after one year would be kind of quick… but for a step up into the Big 10, no one would blame him for long… outside of South Florida.

South Florida is 4-3 this year with Holtz having to play with a team he didn’t recruit. Minnesota would love to be 4-3 right about now. Let’s get aggressive, hire big, and get this guy before he settles in somewhere else and becomes more impossible to land than a thermogenic fat burner.
