Magic number for Twins is five

As of Saturday night, the magic number for the Twins to clench the AL Central title is five… either five Minnesota wins, five White Sox losses, or any combination thereof. There’s a strong chance the whole thing will be decided by mid-week. That’d be a good thing.

The number was reduced to five after the Twins … bouncing back from their bats acting like a Top ten diet pill was influencing them on Friday … and winning 4-2 over the Oakland A’s, off a great game from Kevin Slowey.

The other factor helping the Twins is that Detroit defeated the White Sox 6-3. So the magic number went from seven to five in one day.

At 89 wins, the Twins are currently tied with Tampa Bay and trailing the Yankees by a game for the best record in the American League. That would also give them the best record in baseball, as the top National League team has only 88 wins.
