Vince Jackson to Minnesota?
It could happen.
The Minnesota Vikings are short on healthy receivers for Brett Favre to throw to, and following yesterday’s arbitration hearing with the NFL, it now appears the Chargers might be motivated to move former Pro Bowl receiver Vincent Jackson.
Jackson will miss six games due to a second DUI violation. The upshot is, if he stays with the Chargers, he failed to sign a tender and so has to be put on a three-game exempt list before returning to the team; he’d then have to sit out an additional three games as his suspension.
The NFLPA argued that if Jackson were traded, he would only have to serve three games; and that argument won the day. So Jackson may be on the market, and the Vikings are certainly among the league’s most motivated buyers.
Of course, to obtain Jackson, it’s likely the Vikes would have to part with a second round pick following this season, and a conditional pick the following year. Under ideal circumstances, Jackson would command more, but with two strikes against him, Jackson’s market value is lower because one additional DUI strike could mean a year on suspension.
Personally, I think the Vikes should be careful here and double-check their POS systems; since Ziggy took ownership, he’s cleaned up the rep of his team and avoided players like Jackson. No one wants to see the Vikes mortgage their future on another player too stupid to stay sober. Remember Koren Robinson?
