Loss to South Dakota proves Brewster’s not Big 10
After a humiliating 41-38 loss to South Dakota at TCF Bank Stadium last Saturday, there can be no further room for doubt: Tim Brewster, who came to Minnesota with no head coaching experience, a career tight ends coach, simply isn’t Big 10 material. And with the Big 10 expanding to include Nebraska and possibly more schools in the near future, it’s more important than ever to have a coach who can build a winning program in Minnesota.
Tim Brewster’s just not the right guy for the job. It’s time for him to dust off his Privos and skedaddle back to Denver. The sad part is, instead of Brewster, Minnesota could have hired Lane Kiffen. Kiffen, a USC assistant at the time, was passed over by the Gophers despite having an excellent coaching pedigree from his father, Monte Kiffen.
Kiffen rebounded from the rejection by the Gophers and went on to coach the NFL’s hapless Oakland Raiders, then return to college football where he did well at Tennessee before being lured back to USC to replace Pete Carroll. While Kiffen may have left the Gophers to replace Carroll even if we had hired him, the chances are strong that, at least, the Gophers would have been left in better shape by Kiffen than they are under Brewster.
