Rubio gets cocky

Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio has made it clear he intends to join the NBA; but not this season. He intends to fulfill his contract with FC Barcelona, which does not allow him to opt out of the Euro league until the 2011-12 season.

Rubio also said he’ll be happy to join the Minnesota Timberwolves, so long as they make improvements following a 15-win season where they finished second-worst in the league. If Rubio doesn’t sense improvement, he hinted he may insist on debuting elsewhere in the NBA.

Pretty cocky for a 19-year-old Spanish point guard who has yet to even appear in an NBA training camp, let alone a game. Rubio may need diet pills for his ego; the Wolves hold his NBA rights indefinitely, so demanding a trade before he’s played a single minute in the league is incredibly presumptuous.

Maybe the Wolves should hold onto his rights indefinitely, and never trade him, just to remind the fellow who’d the employer and who’s the employee. Attitude like his, the Wolves don’t need.
