Fred Hoiberg a Cyclone

Fred Hoiberg was a special player for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the season they advanced to the NBA Western Conference Championship Series. After heart problems forced him into retirement as a player, he joined the Wolves front office staff and was widely believed to be a future GM of the organization.

That was before David Kahn was hired last off-season to rehabilitate the franchise; while Kahn was open to keeping Hoiberg, it turns out Fred had different plans as it was announced today that Hoiberg is returning to his college alma mater, Iowa State, to take over as the men’s college basketball coach.

It’s not a profession that will get him more-favorable life insurance rate, necessarily, but we at MinnesotaSportsScene.com certainly wish him well in the Big 12… at least until the Cyclones face off against Tubby’s Gophers!
