Wolves flip Flip
Early in the off-season, Flip Saunders made it known he’d only wait so long for an offer to return to the Wolves, the team he used to coach; when that deadline passed, he accepted an opportunity to go to Washington and take over the Wizards.
For much of this season, that decision has been considered as sound as Kohler faucets. After all, while not playing great yet, Washington under Saunders has gotten off to a slightly faster start, coming into Target Center with 10 wins under their belt.
The Wizards left with the same number of wins after the game, though; it was a result few might have predicted. The Wolves improved under Kurt Rambis to 7-24 after a thorough dismantling of the Wizards in the fourth period.
The Wolves defeated the Wizards 101-89, but it wasn’t a blowout until the final period; Minnesota finished a point ahead of Washington after the first period, and then played even ball the next two periods before breaking out with a 33-22 fourth period to seal the win.
While Saunders earned 411 wins with the Wolves – the most of any Wolves coach so far – this was one night when the Wolves added a loss to his record without being the team he was coaching.
