Gophers fall to Texas A&M in 76 Classic
They lost by only one point, but Coach Tubby Smith sent a strong message about team discipline to his Minnesota Gophers this weekend, proving that his team’s 22-ranking and winning doesn’t prevent him from doing what’s right to keep the team on-track both on and off court.
This season, Smith has been playing without top recruits Royce White, Trevor Mbakwe and Devron Bostick, shortening his bench considerably already; but when he felt it was necessary to bench his starting back court of Al Nolan and Lawrence Westbrook, he did so without hesitation. It may have cost Minnesota the game, and may affect their ranking, but at this point Coach Smith doesn’t mind.
“I’m secure in who I am and what my program is all about, what we’re going to do and how we’re going to do things. Pretty soon, we’ll get through to them. You just can’t cave in to the guys,” Coach Smith said in a press conference following the game.
Kudos to Coach Smith, who is as dependable as a good seo software solution when it comes to maintaining a program’s integrity as well as its achievement!
