Weber, Gophers survive Michigan State
It was sloppy, it was penalty-filled, and it probably made coach Tim Brewster wonder where he could find the best eye cream for wrinkles; but in the end, Minnesota gained 505 yards of total offense and a surprise 42-34 win over Michigan State on Saturday.
The victory puts the Gophers at 5-4 overall, 3-3 in Big Ten play. Hardly dominating, but if they finish strong, perhaps Bowl-worthy. The Weber-Decker Connection is still working even as Decker is already picking out his NFL Draft suit, and that was enough to produce a win this time.
But with 17 penalties for 157 yards – both Gophers and Big Ten record – the sort you don’t want to have – it was anything but pretty.
