Silver Fox in classic form
The Silver Fox was in classic form Sunday as Brett Farve completed a touchdown pass to Greg Lewis in the back of the end zone with two seconds left on the clock to lift the Vikings to a 27-24 victory over the resurgent San Francisco 49ers.
The win moves the Vikings to 3-0 on the season, which sets up next week’s Monday Night game against Favre’s old team, the Green Bay Packers, who are off to a 2-1 start on the season, quite perfectly. While I’m still not a fan of Favre, I’ll certainly take the last-second win; I may be stuck seeing him as the enemy, but I’m not stupid, either.
The Vikings are certainly better-helmed this season with Favre under center, and it is close games like these in which Favre’s veteran leadership makes itself most useful. Although he threw his first pick of the season in the game, Favre also has yet to melt down in a game by tossing multiple picks, or do anything to lose a game. If only that much could be said of T-Jack.
So even though Brett’s turning 40 soon and may need an extra dose of fat burners to fit into his uniform, at least he’s helping us win games. So far.
