Wolves over Heat for first win without Big Al

Big Al Jefferson is so central to the new Timberwolves’ identity as a team, without him the Wolves have been falling apart. Yet in a 111-104 on Wednesday, the Wolves finally landed their first win without Big Al in the post-Garnett era. Jefferson suffered a season-ending injury just before the All Star Break.

It might require loads of computer memory to dig back into the record books and discover the last win Minnesota earned without either Jefferson or Garnett playing, but you can bet it’s been quite a while.

At least this will give management a chance to asses the talent they’ve put in place around Big Al and decide if all the pieces fit, or if there’s building yet to do. My money’s still on the “building yet to do” end of the equation, if for no other reason than the Wolves’ record this season. That ought to be proof enough.
