Joseph scores seven 3s as Gophs fall to Penn State
Playing only 15 minutes in the second half, freshman guard Devoe Joseph hit seven three-point-shots and went eight-of-nine from the field in a 68-63 road loss to Penn State over the weekend. Joseph is still a backup to junior guard Lawrence Westbrook, but may not remain so for much longer if he can string together more games like that.
It’s not like Coach Smith has discount blinds on, either; after all, Joseph was one of Smith’s top recruits in his first full year recruiting for Minnesota. The real issue is balancing court time with Westbrook, who has two more years of experience than Joseph, is leading the team in scoring and despite a four-game slow-down, has done little to merit losing his starting slot.
